The Patio Takes Shape....

I'm following one of my landscape design projects this week on the blog. Demo of the existing wood deck was accomplished yesterday and the patio/landscape bed layout was finalized.

When the demolition was complete yesterday, we spent time yesterday laying out the patio and beds according to the landscape plan. One of the objectives of the design was to soften the angles of the house by adding curves to the edges of the flagstone patio and to the landscape beds that will be installed on the perimeter of the patio.

Most plans drawn on paper need a little tweaking in the real world. We used landscape paint and hoses to refine the layout and make certain that we had enough room for the plants, boulders and annual color that will be installed when the patio is complete. The resulting patio footprint will give the homeowners space for dining, lounging and a small fire pit area.

Rebar was laid to reinforce the 4" of concrete that is being poured this morning.

This may not be the most beautiful part of the project, but it's a critical step in both the design implementation and in creating a solid foundation that will give the homeowners years of enjoyment.

More tomorrow!
