Bathroom Remodel - A True Story
Remodels are not for the faint of heart. The results can be fabulous, but almost any remodel will come with challenges that can take patience, perseverance and creativity to overcome. My dear friend Pamela and her husband Eric are just the people who possess all those qualities and have the remodel results to show for it.
Fortunately too, Pamela is a terrific writer and is not afraid to chronicle her own life in books, a deeply personal blog and even on YouTube - see her video of the almost finished remodel below.
Her recent blog post is a great primer/reality check on the process of remodeling a master bath. If you are considering a bath remodel, "No more need for the cat box..." is almost required reading. For more of Pamela's Road to Joy, follow her blog here or on FaceBook here. Great job Pamela and thanks for letting me share!

You are welcome, Lisa, and thank you for your advice and design example over the years! I will echo that remodel is not for the faint of heart. I have done a great bathroom from scratch, and one from remodel. Remodel was much harder. You find problems you can't solve, problems you didn't know existed, and problems in things that weren't supposed to be problems. Electrical was a bigger challenge than expected as we needed to add circuits as well as move and add outlets and switches. That cost an extra thousand and nearly a week in the timeline. So, my advice? Budget extra time and money for the unexpected. If you go in with reasonable expectations, you'll have a chance of exceeding them. And it really helps to be onsite as much as possible and knowledgeable about all the skill areas, or have a third party you can call to bounce ideas off of. We can't wait to truly be done, but, at 95%, we are already elated with the functional, more spacious, better lighted, and natural feeling results.
ReplyDeleteI was raised around the rougher side of construction (my father a home builder who was a no frills sort of guy). I have to say I poo poo'ed Pamela a bit when she spent two days arranging and re arranging the travertine tiles on our dining room floor until she got the look that she wanted. However, it is without question now the most stunning visual in the room. It made such an incredible difference (over how I would have done it (random).
ReplyDeleteGreat advice Pamela! I can't wait to see it 100% complete and know that blog readers will want a peek too.
